String Quintet in E flat Major, Op.66 No.1

For 2 Violins, 2 Violas & Cello

Franz Danzi (1763-1826) today is only known for his wind quintets which over the past few decades have been resuscitated and gained popularity among wind players for their ease of performance and fine melodic writing. His career spanned the transition from the late Classical to the early Romantic styles. Danzi knew Mozart and mentored Carl Maria von Weber. In 1783, Danzi succeeded his father as one of the conductors of Elector’s orchestra. He eventually rose to the position of Kapellmeister at the courts in Munich and later Stuttgart.  His works reflect thea style from his own early experience in Mannheim.
