Lamento & Tarantelle for Clarinet and Piano

Gabriel Marie Grovlez (1879-1944) was born in the French city of Lille. He studied composition at the Paris Conservatory with Gabriel Fauré and taught at the Schola Cantorum and later served as a professor of chamber music at the Paris Conservatory. Most of his compositions were for voice and he also was known as an eminent opera conductor. Neo-classicism influenced him.

His Lamento & Tarantelle was the official 1923 Solo de Concours, that is the competition work, for the prestigious Paris Conservatory competition. It is a highly effective work and makes a good recital choice.
