Frühlingsstimmen (Voices of Spring), Op.410 for String Quartet

Frühlingsstimmen, Voices of Spring in English, was originally composed in 1882 as an orchestral waltz, with optional solo soprano voice. It was dedicated to Alfred Grünfeld a well-known Viennese pianist and composer. At its premiere, the then famous coloratura soprano Bianca Bianchi) sang the aria at the Theater an der Wien. It was not a success, but later it gained popularity during Strauss’ tour of Russia in 1886. Arrangements for piano and chamber ensembles by the composer helped to increase its popularity and today, it is one of his most well-known and popular waltzes
