Valse Triste for Violin & Piano

Franz von Vecsey (1893-1935) was born in Budapest. After studying the violin with his father, he then with the Hungarian virtuoso, Jenő Hubay. He became know throughout Europe as child prodigy virtuoso and remained one of the leading violinists before the pubic. Sibelius dedicated his violin concerto to Vecsey. Toward the end of his life he concentrated on conducting.

Vecsey's  Valse Triste dates from 1913. Designed for his own use, this highly emotive work was quickly taken upon by other important violinists and programmed on their recitals.
