Johann Sebastian Bach

Johann Sebastian Bach needs no introduction. After Mendelssohn reintroduced Bach, whose music had all but disappeared, during the first part of the 19th century, his music was revived and widely performed. Among the works which gained great popularity were his 15 Sinfonia BWV 787-801. They were also known as three part inventions and were short pieces composed for keyboard. Of these works, Bach wrote that  his intention was to create  "Forthright instruction wherewith lovers of the clavier, especially those desirous of learning, are shown in a way not only to learn to play two voices clearly but also with three parts..." Their popularity led to transcriptions for several combinations of three instruments. Perhaps the most successful of which, depending upon the transcriber, were for violin, viola and cello. Ours were transcribed by Richard Hofmann, a well-known composer and Professor of Composition at the famous Leipzig Conservatory.

The Terzetti were traditionally sold in two volumes--eight in the first book and seven the second. No doubt this was done to increase sales revenue. We offer them all in one volume for what we believe is the first time at a very attractive price.
